About the composer

Tim Currie is a composer and saxophonist based in Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in music composition at the University of Northern Colorado. Engaging with music from childhood, Tim found a passion and love for the art form and thoroughly enjoys sharing it with others. His aim is to share his passion with others and to tell a story to the listener with every piece he composes. Tim’s music takes inspiration from genres spanning time and style: from classical to jazz, to rock, metal, hip-hop, and folk. Tim’s most recent interest has been musical portraiture with his latest piece “Portraits of American Verse”, premiering April 2026, taking poetry and painting it into a musical composition. While studying at the University of Northern Colorado, Tim has had the pleasure of composing for and working with several ensembles such as the UNC Symphony Orchestra, Spectrum Studio Orchestra, UNC Graduate Saxophone Quartet, Bear Lake Winds, and UNC Wind Ensemble. In 2024, Tim received the award for Outstanding Student in Music Composition at UNC. As a classical saxophonist, Tim strives to contribute fun and accessible music to the repertoire for the instrument by means of solo, duet, and quartet music including pieces such as “Wind: A Saxophone Quartet”, “In Pursuit of a Lost Hope”, “Sonata for Two Saxophones”, and “5 Short Pieces for Solo Saxophone”.
